Investigations
You hear a knock on your door; you look out and see two plain clothed detectives waiting for you. You open the door and the detectives ask you to let them in so that they can discuss with you an investigation they are conducting. The detectives appear well meaning and reassure you that everything will be okay so long as you tell them the truth. In a situation like this, the detectives won’t inform you of your right to remain silent or that you are the target of a criminal investigation. What you don’t know, however, is that they may very well be setting you up to make an incriminating statement that will later be used against you.
At this point it is critical that you assert yourself and let the officers know that you want to consult with a criminal defense attorney before speaking to them. Beware, however, that there is a crucial difference between lying to an officer and remaining silent. Your silence cannot be used against you; a lie, however, can.
Let Erick Cruz do the talking for you. Erick is an experienced criminal defense attorney who knows how to deal with such a situation. Erick will call and speak to the officers and gather as much information from them as they are willing to share. With this knowledge, you and Erick can discuss your options. You have the right to remain silent and not say or participate in the detectives’ investigation. If you decide to speak to the detectives, Erick will attempt to secure immunity for you to guarantee that anything you tell the police cannot later be used against you. Additionally, getting out ahead of an investigation can help you avoid an arrest altogether and with Erick’s guidance you can deflect the attention off of yourself and onto other more culpable parties.
Unfortunately, in most cases, the person chooses to speak to the detectives and unknowingly makes statements that are self-incriminating. Only after reflection does the person realize the error they have committed. It is still not too late to call Erick Cruz! Even if you spoke to the investigators, you still have a chance to let Erick contact the police and make arrangements that will benefit you. The biggest mistake is to not do anything and ignore the situation. Typically, neglecting to address the situation is met with a rude awakening by police looking to arrest you in the dead of night.
Don’t get caught by surprise. If you or a loved one is under investigation, call Erick Cruz. Let him guide you through the investigation phase and let him get you through as a witness and not a defendant.
